The team is happily awash in 2024 granting and well, there is no time like the present! We’re delighted to roll out our 2023 community endowment grantee stories – we’re sharing stories all year! Follow along and learn about some amazing charities doing equally amazing work creating stronger, brighter communities.
A six-time grantee, we are thrilled to showcase Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, recipient of a $20,000, unrestricted Envision Financial, a division of First West Credit Union Community Endowment impact grant, housed with the First West Foundation.
What does unrestricted really mean? Well, just that – funds are released unrestricted, and charities decide how to best apply the funds. We are proud to invest in organizations and programs; and believe charities know where a First West Foundation grant will make the biggest impact for their organization.
For Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland , it’s GO GIRLS! HEALTHY BODIES, HEALTHY MINDS – an eight-week group mentoring program designed to encourage physical activity, balanced eating, and the development of a positive self-image for female-identified pre-teens and teens aged 9-13.
“Bringing the Go Girls program into schools in Surrey and Delta means bringing together a potential new group of friends, new connections to caring and trusted adults, building skills and awareness of well-being, and creating a safe space for participants to be themselves,” shares Jessica Forster Broomfield, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland Director of Programs.
“The funding offered through First West Foundation helps to ensure there are few to no barriers for participants to attend Go Girls, with the program offered for free with snacks and new, fun activities provided every day!”
We are pleased to support Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland and their well respected, in-school mentoring GO GIRLS! programs in Surrey and Delta.
