Hazel NevrklaRotary Club of Salmon Arm

Our local Salmon Arm Observer / Shuswap Market - part of Black Press - has always supported Rotary in the Shuswap. They make sure all our activities supporting the community are well publicized. They often attend events - like our opening of the Bastion Place Garden areas - take their own pictures and do their own reports. Thanks!

Social enterprise Mealshare has partnered with A&W Canada to help end youth hunger.
For every Mealshare Item purchased at an A&W location, one simple healthy meal will be provided to a youth in need.
With 1,000 locations across the country participating, including restaurants across BC, the partnership aims to share 1,250,000 meals per year, provided through Mealshare’s network of 450 local charity partners across Canada.
80 per cent of Mealshare’s financial support stays in local communities where the Mealshare Item was purchased, and 20 per cent goes internationally to Save the Children.
Here's how it works: A&W customers visiting on ‘Mealshare Mondays’ can order a Cheddar Bacon Uncle Burger Combo and one meal will be provided to a youth in need. On any day of the week, customers can “Make it a Mealshare” by adding $1 to their order, which will also provide a meal to a youth in need.
Participate in-restaurant, through drive-thru, or by using the mobile app.
“A&W is an amazing organization and a leader in the industry through its many environmental and social initiatives,” says Jeremy Bryant, Co-Founder of Mealshare. “The support of A&W restaurants will make a huge impact for Mealshare and all the youth we support across the entire country."
Says Susan Senecal, Chief Executive Officer at A&W Canada, “No child should ever go hungry, especially in a country like Canada, so we’re thrilled that we can be a part of this initiative.”
In order to maintain Covid-19 safety protocols, post-secondary institutions have instituted a hybrid model of educational delivery for the 2020-21 academic year. The ability to pivot has been instrumental this past year as the Covid-19 pandemic shifts and evolves. We want to say thank you for all the professors, instructors and staff who have found ways to continue delivering a high level of education despite the challenges of this past year.
With support from the community, Charelli's Cheese Shop and Deli in Oak Bay served up a $3,000 fundraiser for @VictoriaHospice Feb. 25. Hosted in honour of National Chili Day, the Charelli's team sold bowls of hearty, house-made beef or vegetarian chili, all in support of end-of-life care and bereavement services provided by the local hospice team.
We are thrilled to announce that our Brave Face mask fundraiser has raised $10,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation BC & Yukon. Your mask purchases have made this donation possible and we are so thankful for your support. Learn more about the initiative here https://www.abbynews.com/social-matters/bravefa...
Across Canada, communities responding to COVID-19 have now received an injection of more than $136M from United Ways and Centraides through the Emergency Community Support Fund. Local UWCs are part of the fabric of the communities they serve. Each one has an intimate knowledge of the local issues and strong connections to local service networks. That local expertise allowed UWCs to make rapid, informed decisions to distribute funds to provide emergency relief to those who need it most.
