St Alfred's Community Event Delivers Vital Relief to Niagara Families

St. Alfred’s Church transformed its parking lot into a hub of hope and support, hosting a special community outreach event to assist local families impacted by recent flooding and give a good nutritional start to kids heading back to school soon. The initiative brought together several regional partners and organizations, including St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, DSMAH Children's Charity, Cityserve, and OAM, all uniting with a single focus: getting essential relief directly to residents and children in need. What started as a simple setup of tents, tables, and food distribution stations quickly expanded into an overwhelming display of community spirit. Volunteers greeted families, shared words of support, and kicked off the gathering with a brief prayer for the neighbourhood. By the end of the day, the initiative had distributed an estimated 26,000 pounds of fresh food and household supplies. Attendees were able to take home a wide variety of nutritious items—including fresh corn, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, eggs, bread, and treats—alleviating immediate pressure on family grocery budgets while fostering a warm, welcoming space for neighbours to connect. Beyond the physical relief, the highlight of the event was the community connection. Volunteers and local families shared warm conversations throughout the day, bringing plenty of smiles to the faces of young children in attendance. Organizers extended a heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated volunteers and partner organizations whose hard work made the outreach possible, proving once again that volunteers truly make the world go round.
