Pharmasave Portage la Prairie aids Salvation Army hampers with food drive

The Christmas season is a time of joy for many but rising costs and the stress of feeding extended family and providing toys for children may keep some families from celebrating.
Throughout the year, The Salvation Army strives to help those in need. We provide access to food banks, community/family services and affordable shopping at our Thrift Stores. At Christmastime, the need is often greater, and many Salvation Army Corps go above and beyond to bring the Christmas Spirit through food hampers, Adopt-a-Family and toy programs.
"Sam Hawco called me and said, 'Is this something that you guys would be interested in doing, like a fun rivalry challenge?' And I thought, 'You know what? That's great, we love to be involved in things in our community like this,' and I was really happy they thought of us."
Overall, Hawco notes they raised a tremendous amount of food for the Salvation Army.
"We had 296 food items that we donated between us and Hills Clinic Pharmacy, and I believe Pharmasave, they were 571, so I hate to give up bragging rights, but I think Pharmasave won them this year."
Giercke adds that in the end, while her business did win the challenge, the real winners were the Salvation Army, who will be distributing the food raised in their Christmas hampers.
