Coastal Community Employee Volunteer Spotlight Form

How I Help

My name is Amber Shipley, and I am the Assistant Manager at our Parksville Coastal Community Insurance location. I have worked for Coastal Community Insurance for a total of almost 13 years in several different positions.

Please tell us about the organization you volunteer with and what you do and why this organization is important to you.

I spend most of my volunteer time as an Assistant Coach for my son's soccer team with the Oceanside Football Club every Wednesday & Saturday. It is truly gratifying to observe young soccer players not only enhancing their athletic skills but also building a sense of confidence as they participate in the game. The process of playing soccer fosters teamwork, perseverance, and self-esteem, all of which are essential qualities for the growth and development of young people.

Why is volunteering important to you?

As a mother, I cherish every moment spent with my young children and aim to be a positive role model for them. I want to teach them about giving back to our communities whenever I can.

Which organization are you directing your winning funds to and why?

I have selected The District 69 Backpack Program as the recipient of my winning funds. It’s disheartening to know that currently, 3 out of 10 children in BC face food insecurity. When students leave school for the weekend, their focus should be on enjoying their time off, not worrying about where their next meal will come from.
