Employee Volunteer Spotlight: Rae Assailly

My Time at Coastal Community

My name is Rae Assailly and I joined the Coastal Community on March 18, 2024. I work as a Business Relationship Manager at the Ryan Road Business Centre in Courtenay.

Please tell us about the organization you volunteer with and what you do and why this organization is important to you.

I volunteer as the Music Librarian for the Canadian Military Wives Choirs - Comox. The role includes administrating the portfolio of songs we sing. Making sure the practice tracks and scores are available to the choir members. I also have to submit the royalties for the songs we perform in front of an audience. The organization is important to me because I sing in the choir. I moved to the Comox Valley in August 2023, being new to the community, the choir helped me connect and start to make friends. Plus singing is an excellent way to alleviate stress!

Why is volunteering important to you?

Volunteering is important to me because I think it makes for a more caring and cohesive community. It also allows me to explore interests that aren't related to work or home life.

Which organization are you directing your winning funds to and why?

Canadian Military Wives Choirs - Comox. The choir is completely self-supporting, we pay our expenses through membership fees, bake sales and wreath making during the holiday season. The $100 will mean a lot and help us continue to be a fun and productive group this year.
