Presenting the Biggest Little Western Event on Vancouver Island!
Event date August 19 & 20, 2023 - Every year, the Vancouver Island Western Heritage Association presents its family-friendly event Bulls, Broncs & Barrels, at the Coombs Rodeo Grounds near Parksville. BC's best barrel racers, bull riders, saddle bronc and bareback competitors compete for $20,000 in prize money, and several of the best barrel racers are under 10 years old, and fearless in their riding skills. A Saturday night dance brings together competitors and spectators to a live country band. Food trucks, a concession and a variety of craft vendors offer something to do before and after the show. The adjacent campgrounds fill up quickly and nearly 3,000 spectators each day learn about Vancouver Island's history of ranching, farming and rodeo. The celebration of Western heritage, skills in cattle-sorting and training horses is still present today, with many riding and Western sport clubs established throughout the Island.
