Proud to help out the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive today which started a week early in my hometown of Duncan. Jennifer Dunstan and I had a great time getting in some exercise while doing some good as we delivered empty bags to neighbourhoods in Duncan, to encourage donations of non-perishable food items for those in need. We were on a mission and really motoring (despite the warm muggy weather) and managed to get all of our bags delivered to the more than 170 residences in an hour and a half. Felt very accomplished! That's with a bit of chit chat with some of the friendly neighbours and their adorable dogs. Got a few dog cuddles in as well! As part of Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union 's Make a Difference Days we had the opportunity to do all of this good during our work day which sure felt awesome!

I'll go back on Saturday with my family and help to pick up the bags and deliver to a sorting station where all the non-perishable food items will be boxed up and then delivered to our local food banks. So happy to see this event back up and running after a more than two year hiatus in many communities due to COVID. Our food banks really need our help right now and this is a great opportunity to give them a lift. Many of our food banks are struggling to keep food on their shelves and with food costs up and supply issues ongoing, there has been an increase in food bank users as well.

If a bag gets dropped at your home (and your able to give) please support the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive and fill your bag with non-perishable food items and leave out at the end of your driveway by 10am for the coming Saturday. Cowichan and Nanaimo are hosting their drives this week, but the event goes province wide next week. Together we can make a difference! No bag dropped off? You can still contribute and drop off donations directly to most food bank locations. Island Savings is also happy to take your non-perishables at any time and has a food bin in each of our branches. Thanks in advance for your support!
