Our Member Service Centre had the pleasure today of taking their Day of Difference donation over to the West Kelowna foodbank!
While they were there they learned some facts about the foodbank:
On average that put together approx. 110 client packages per week.
• Families and individuals are only eligible to obtain a package once every 28 days.
• The package from the food bank contains enough food for approx. 10 days
• There are many different programs that the food bank offers for assistance, especially for families with children
o Tiny Bundles: This program is specially designed to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant mothers and families with children under the age of one
o Kids Snack Pack Program: This program provides children from ages one to 12 years with a one week supply of ready-to eat, healthy, nutritious (age appropriate) snacks to take to pre-school, day care or school
• There are approximately 40% more people looking for assistance from the food bank (compared to 2020)
• They currently have 1-3 new applications per week with people looking for assistance
• The West Kelowna Food Bank only has 1 full time employee and 1 part time employee – the rest of the labour required to run the food bank comes from volunteers.
