The 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club on September 20th saw players “swinging for a great cause” – to give local children and families in need equal access to YMCA programs.

“We are so incredibly grateful that we were able to execute a modified tournament in compliance with the current Provincial Health orders and raise much needed funds for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign,” exclaims Rhonda Zakala, VP of Fund Development. “We can continue our charitable work in supporting our communities most vulnerable and those who have suffered even greater financial hardship due to the crisis.”

Along with the tournament’s commitment to the YMCA, a multi-year presenting sponsorship has been provided by Wilson M. Beck, a locally-owned general insurance brokerage.

“One important criterium when selecting a charity was that proceeds would stay in the Okanagan,” says Steven Pavelich, WMB Managing Partner and Title Sponsor. “The YMCA is unique in that it ensures 100% of our dollars raised would stay in the community and equally important would help underprivileged children in need. We are honoured to have the opportunity to be a part of this event benefitting the Y.”

The sun shone on the 120 golfers who enjoyed staggered tee start times, boxed meals and lots of contests and prizing on the course, along with support from the volunteers who helped to safely execute the event. Funds were contributed through sponsorships, donations of prizing, a raffle for a wall of 100 bottles of VQA award winning wines, an online auction, and a portion of the golfers’ entry fee, resulting in over $68,000 raised for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.

Co-chairs, Dr. John Weisbeck and Alli McNeill share, “We are so appreciative of the board and staff at the KGCC for working with our committee to enable this event to come to fruition. We are honoured to be able to raise much-needed funds despite the many hurdles and challenges this year and want to thank everyone for their kindness and support of important local Y programs. See you all in 2022!”
