Soroptimist International of Surrey/Delta: One of the joys and rewards of being a Soroptimist is the incredible young women we get to know through our Violet Richardson Award. This award recognizes young women 14 – 17 who make their community and world a better place through their volunteer efforts. Such is Tavisha Kochhar, our 2021 VRA winner. Since the age of 11, Tavisha has made it her mission and passion to find creative and innovative ways to protect the environment. Through the sale of her environmentally-friendly products, she has donated to BC Children’s Hospital, BC Cancer, Red Cross for BC wildfires in 2016 and Australian wildfires in 2020. Visit her website at www.tavishahelpinghands.com to learn more about her products and how you can support her.

Most recently, she has started making reusable face masks for an affordable price and to date has donated more than $4,500 to hospitals for COVID 19 Response Funds and Research Funds – and she’s not done yet!

We are so impressed by Tavisha’s accomplshments to date, and with the loving support and guidance of her parents, she will continue to be a change-maker who makes our world a better place. Tavisha’s words are powerful, and as she says, “I very strongly believe that it is not money that is needed to help the community; it is the passion and intention.” Congratulations, Tavisha – we are so proud to add you to our list of amazing young women who are turning their passion into pro-active results! #tavishahelpinghands #soroptimistsurreydelta
