Had a wonderful time supporting the great grape pick out in Glenora recently as part of our Annual Make a Difference Days at Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union. Each year we are provided with paid time to give back in our communities and support non-profit initiatives. This year due to COVID our volunteer opportunities were somewhat reduced, so it was great to have an option where we could be outside and socially distancing while still giving back. Vineyard owner Carsten Mildenstein and his family graciously hosted a large crew of us, providing us with a wonderful lunch and donating our wages to benefit The Full Cupboard in support of our island food banks. Our team picked over 9,500 pounds of grapes and our wages of $900 will help to generate more than 2,700 meals for those in need through the buying power of our local food banks. Sure was an awesome day, connecting with nature and more importantly with each other! It was quite emotional for many of us to see our colleagues - many who have been working remotely and we haven't seen in many months. We had perfect weather, and was nice to catch up and talk with everyone, keeping our social distance between the rows of beautiful Bachus and Marechal Foch grapes.
