For #NationalVolunteerWeek we’re celebrating our team members who go above and beyond the call of duty and volunteer their time and talents to brighten their communities.
Meet Financial Advisor Michael Gordon, who spends his downtime with the team at BC SPCA Kelowna Branch, giving love and care to abandoned animals.
“I’ve been volunteering with the Kelowna SPCA since April 2017 as a dog walker/companion, as well as helping with maintenance and yard work. Before that I volunteered with the Surrey SPCA as a lead volunteer for dog walkers and was also a coordinator for their annual Paws for a Cause Dog Walk-a-Thon. My own dog is an adoption from the Surrey SPCA; nine years ago he had been found abandoned outside a mall complex and spent two months at the SPCA where I fell in love and ended up welcoming him into my home. Through him I’ve experienced first-hand the love and care animals coming from the SPCA give and deserve to receive. My pup is a 13-year-old Lab-Retriever with hip dysplasia, arthritis and he’s had two knee surgeries for ACL tears but he keeps on trucking and still gets excited for walks, hikes and swims! I’m so thankful to the SPCA for taking him in, caring for him while in their care and then allowing me to bring him home.”
“The Kelowna SPCA does such important work to protect and take care of animals who can’t fend for themselves, to educate the public and help animals to find their “furever” homes. All of their employees and the other volunteers are so amazing; it can be very emotional work but they work tirelessly with the animals in their care to nurse them back to health, train them and prepare them for a successful adoption. I can’t say enough good things about the Kelowna SPCA!”
