The abc |Acton Business Company held the 3rd Annual Pitch Night at the Acton Town Hall Centre on Tuesday, February 13th, 2018. Five Acton High School students made business pitches to mentors, sponsors, family, and friends. This innovative program takes standard curriculum and gives it an exciting new twist. The students in Mrs. Virginia Houston’s Grade 10 Business Class developed business plans this semester and then presented them in a "Dragon's Den" like pitch day. The winning concepts were awarded start-up funds to actually run their business over the summer of 2018 with the backing of an extraordinary mentor team and sponsors.
The goal of the program is to develop a meaningful experience for students and staff that is steeped in the assets of the school and the surrounding community. The community team working with Mrs. Houston includes Kathleen Dills, Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce and Dianne Gowland, Downtown Acton BIA, Beth Paisley, Superior Glove, Liz Bates, Investors Group Financial Service, Brad Fitzsimmons Maturinc and Elizabeth Koc, Tandia and dedicated partnership from Halton Public Health Tanya Melykuty, Public Health Nurse.
