Volunteer BC
Submission #89:
Victoria Ritchie – Youth of the Year - In the last 5 years Victoria has accomplished what most people won't do in a lifetime. She has been awarded Student of the Month by the YES Project and the Rotary Club of Penticton. She has shaved her head in the name of cancer. She volunteers at our hospital, the special olympics swim team, and raised over $60,000 for cystic fibrosis in a fundraiser. She is on the steering committee for the YES Project (Youth Engagement Strategy) whose sole focus is to build a youth centre in Penticton. "I volunteer because I am grateful. I am privileged to live in a country and community that respects my voice and my work. I have been given so many tools to succeed from my school, my community and my fellow Canadians and I have always been encouraged to work hard and succeed and this has given me the drive to give back to a community that has given me so much. I value the importance in getting involved in community discussion and activities and I use this as vehicle to share and spread my passion for a better, brighter world. My hope is that my work will live on in this community, and I can return to find it bigger and brighter than before." -Victoria Ritchie
