This summer, Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union was proud to support Foundry Kelowna through a $50,000 community grant as part of our #SimpleGenerosity initiative – our way of celebrating #Canada150 and reinvesting in our local communities.

We’re delighted to announce Foundry Kelowna as the winner of Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union $50,000 #SimpleGenerosity community grant! It’s our way of celebrating #Canada150 and reinvesting in the heart of Canadian culture—our local communities. Foundry Kelowna is a new integrated youth mental health care centre established by the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation in partnership with The Canadian Mental Health Association, Kelowna. With a focus on early intervention and cooperation between clinical and social support programs, Foundry Kelowna will offer solution-based programs and patient-centered care for young people age 12-24, transforming the way youth mental health is addressed in our communities.Thank you to all the organizations who applied for our community grant and all our caring community members who voted. Vote now for Henning Emergency Clinic of Kindness (H.E.C.K. Dental Clinic) by selecting an emoji below! Winning the $50,000 SimpleGenerosity grant from Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union and Enderby & District Financial, a division of First West CU would allow HECK Clinic to help marginalized individuals, low income families, fixed income seniors, those with Ministry Assistance, as well as the homeless and working poor who reside within the South Okanagan. The clinic provides emergency dental treatment for issues causing pain or infection when lack of finances prevents them from seeking treatment at traditional dental offices. The clinic has been operating since March 2014 and they have treated over 800 patients. This access to services allows patients to receive the emergency care they need so they can return to work sooner and avoid taking addictive ongoing pain medication. Winning the $50,000 SimpleGenerosity grant from Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union and Enderby & District Financial, a division of First West CU would allow them to purchase equipment to expand the annual Kamloopa Powwow. The event encourages the continuation and understanding of First Nations culture welcoming both aboriginal and non-aboriginal people into their territory. They promote goodwill, multiculturalism, and a greater level of cross-cultural understanding through song, dance and native arts. Winning the $50,000 SimpleGenerosity grant from Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union and Enderby & District Financial, a division of First West CU would propel them one step closer to opening a Youth Resource Centre in Penticton. The Youth Resource Centre will be a one-stop hub of youth services with support from 26 local youth serving agencies. The YRC will provide health care services as well as assist youth with basic needs like food, showers, laundry and toiletries. There will be many opportunities for learning and trying new activities including cooking classes, job training, and budgeting. Shoe Bank Canada collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and public donations and then distribute those shoes, free of charge, to people in need across Canada. With no similar program available, they serve over 750 children per month in the Central Okanagan.
