Stories of our community involvement
The year 2020 stormed in and shook up the Nonprofit sector causing many organizations to deliver their critical programs and services while experiencing an extreme loss of revenue and with increased stress on employees. According to Imagine Canada’s sector monitoring report, 45% of charities are now reporting that while there is an increase in demand for their services, this demand is growing faster than their capacity.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the Nonprofit sector, six local charitable partners have collaborated to create an innovative funding program called, The Sustainable Recovery Grant. The local funders include United Way Southern Interior BC, Interior Savings, Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union, Community Foundation of the North Okanagan, and Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen .
The Sustainable Recovery Grants program responds directly to the emerging and shifting needs of charities in the Southern Interior region of BC. While it is unusual for funders to work together in this way, the group recognizes that without support to specifically explore sustainable revenue models and strong internal capacity, our Nonprofits are at risk. The program provides grants for coaching and support focused on resilience and recovery in four key areas: revenue, operations, people and impact.
The 2021 Sustainability Grants have been awarded to seven charitable organizations for customized coaching and support through Purppl’s Resilience & Recovery Program, enabling recipients to focus on their specific sustainability needs and opportunities.
2021 SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY GRANT RECIPIENTS:
Canadian Mental Health Association- Vernon
The Clubhouse Farm
Connect Counselling & Therapy

Wednesday afternoon 13 wonderful staff from Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union spent 2 hours volunteering at our vegetable plot at Helen's Acres. They weeded, harvested and washed produce, all with a smile on their face and a spring in their step! Thank you all so much for your hard work and for contributing once again to the mission of feeding the valley! With their help we were able to harvest 22 bins of produce!

We are so grateful for the compassionate support of Landmark Dental Centre. Dr. Corlazzoli has helped a great many people in need get much needed dental care at Kelowna's Gospel Mission's dental clinic.
Thank you Do Some Good! We have consistently attracted volunteers through your platform! Moms and college students looking for ways to give back as well as office workers looking for ideas to get out into nature and help in their community!
In the past two weeks our wonderful volunteers have harvested 57 rubbermaid bins of vegetables to donate to agencies such as: Central Okanagan Community Food Bank, Karis Support Society, Kelowna Women's Shelter, Freedom's Door, Kelowna's Gospel Mission, The Salvation Army Kelowna. This assorted vegetable bin went to the NOW Canada AG House to help nourish the women and children at this emergency center. Spreading the love one bin of veggies at a time!

“It’s a Bakery”, the new go to bakery/lunch spot in the Mission, donated loads of bread to Kelowna's Gospel Mission yesterday. Perfect timing, they said they had no bread for toast this morning!
