WE'RE BREAKING DOWN WOMEN’S CANCERS
This year, more than 3,700 women in our community – grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and friends –will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 1,570 with a gynecological cancer.

Thanks to YOU, BC Cancer is on the cusp of truly changing cancer outcomes for women forever, bringing innovative therapies to cure more women through precision medicine.

Here's how we're leading the charge:

BC Cancer initiatives like B-PRECISE and OVCARE are leading the world in terms of better understanding women’s cancers and developing treatments based on precision medicine
Thanks to BC Cancer breast cancer screening and treatment, BC has the lowest incidence of cancer and the best outcomes in Canada
In the past 18 years, BC Cancer’s OVCARE program has fundamentally changed the global understanding of reproductive cancers
NOW is our time to act.

Make a gift today to help B.C. stay one step ahead of women’s cancers for every patient, with every test and every personalized therapy.

In 2019, during a routine gallbladder surgery, Nancy Cleveland’s doctors discovered the worst. She had stage 3c ovarian cancer.
-
Nancy started on chemotherapy and underwent surgery to keep the cancer at bay, until she was told of her eligibility for a ground-breaking clinical trial, made possible by generous donor support. Throughout her harrowing experience, BC Cancer experts provided comfort and hope.
-
“From the moment I walked through the doors at BC Cancer, I knew I didn’t have to be afraid. I just felt held by every person I came across.”
-
This past December, Nancy celebrated her official remission and continues to help spread awareness around ovarian cancer. Thank you Nancy for sharing your story, and congratulations! #FacesofCancer

When Bob Charron retired at 58 after a 35-year career in the RCMP, he had big plans for the next chapter in his life. He couldn’t wait to spend more time with his wife, kids and grandson.

Unfortunately, only a few short months after he retired, his plans were stopped in their tracks: Bob was diagnosed with Stage 2B prostate cancer.

His oncologist at BC Cancer – Kelowna quickly identified that he was a prime candidate for an innovative treatment called brachytherapy.

DISCOVERY REVEALS THAT HODGKIN LYMPHOMA HIJACKS PATIENT’S IMMUNE CELLS
--
BC Cancer researchers have discovered key information about how Hodgkin lymphoma cells are able to grow undetected within the body by examining how they interact within the complete tumour environment. By observing the tumour ecosystem - cell by cell - in patients with Hodgkin lymphoma, researchers led by Dr. Christian Steidl with the Centre for Lymphoid Cancer at BC Cancer uncovered how some health immune cells (T-cells) work to suppress the immune system by hiding the cancerous Hodgkin lymphoma cells and in some cases forming a shield around them.
