Project Literacy is holding a CASTING CALL for a new Radio Play! ‘For Love and Apples’ is written by Paul Zuurbier and Lee Karvonen. Directed by Neal Facey.
Two live, one-hour staged readings will be performed at the Kelowna Community Theatre – Main Stage, on Sunday, February 6th, 2022. The play will be recorded for broadcast.
Auditioning actors are asked to prepare a 1-to-2-minute contemporary monologue and be prepared to cold read a selection from the play.
Auditions will be held at Project Literacy, 1635 Bertram Street, Kelowna

Auditions will be held Tuesday, December 7th and Thursday, December 9th from 6pm-8pm. The time/date for your audition will be confirmed with you. Some rehearsals will be in December. In January, there will be two evening and one weekend rehearsal each week.
Roles are:
GAIL: In love and recently engaged to MARCEL. Early 60s.
MARCEL: Widower. Very traditional in his views of French culture. In love and recently engaged with GAIL. Late 60s.
SYLVIA: GAIL’s mother and family storyteller. 80-90 yrs old.
JEAN: MARCEL’s Uncle. French. 80-90 yrs old.
DOROTHY/DOTTIE: GAIL’s grandmother. Works hand-wrapping and packaging apples in a packing plant. Early 20s.
CLARA: DOROTHY’s spunky friend and co-worker. Early 30s-40s.
RICHARD: English. Travels to the Okanagan and falls in love with DOROTHY. Mid 20s.
SXSÌST‘IYAʔ(SWEETGRASS): Indigenous woman. Married to PHILIPPE.
PHILIPPE: A young settler and apple orchard farmer. Great Grandfather to JEAN. Married to SWEETGRASS.
SARAH: Indigenous Storyteller. Friend to SYLVIA.
