Reception Volunteer
Provide positive, social interaction with guests and assist with nightly shelter preparations.Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity in Kelowna? Are you someone who likes to interact with others? We are looking for caring, compassionate people like you to volunteer! Inn From The Cold – Kelowna is looking for volunteers in our 35-bed emergency winter shelter which operates from November to April. One volunteer opportunity in the shelter is the reception shift that is from 6pm until 9pm and there are 2 shifts available per evening.
Shift duties include:
- Setting up before intake, which can include making beds, stocking toiletries, preparing hot beverages, stocking linens
- Greeting guests as they arrive for the evening
- Assisting with guest requests
- Monitoring main area and smoking area outside
- Interact with guest (playing game, chatting, etc)
- Help serve food when necessary
- Assist with light cleaning such as wiping down tables after supper
- Help settle guest in their sleeping areas
Throughout the season we offer a variety of different training opportunities for our volunteers at no-charge or at a discounted price (to cover cost of materials). Training opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with Vulnerable Populations
- Harm Reduction Workshop
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Food Safe
- Problem Gambling

This volunteer position has no scheduling requirements attached to it. You can work out your availability and time commitment directly with the organizer.
