You don't have to be a math whiz to help a child who struggles with numbers. The Mentoring with Math program is a flexible volunteer opportunity for men and women. Mentoring with math is an after-school program for boys and girls in grades 3-7 who are struggling with math. Mentors are matched with children to help make math fun and achievable.
Mentors spend 90 minutes once a week with a child one on one with the first portion of the weekly session encouraging the understanding of math while the second part is spent building a friendship between the child and mentor through playing games and activities. The program is based on and uses techniques from the JUMP Math numeracy program.
No previous tutoring experience is necessary. Training and Math workshops will be provided. All volunteers must go through the Big Brothers' training and screening process. Volunteers must provide a criminal record check and references.
We are currently looking for volunteers to join our Mentoring with Math Program virtually through Zoom
