Group Program Volunteer

Facilitate afterschool groups that encourage healthy lifestyles, building life skills and creating new peer connections.

We are currently seeking applications for our Go Girls!, Game On! and Explorations after school programs.
Go Girls! is a group mentoring program for female-identifying youth in grades 4 7 (age requirement may vary depending on location of program) that focusses on physical activity, balanced eating and self-esteem. The single, most important goal of the program is to positively shape the lives of young people by helping them build a positive self-image setting them on a path to reach their full potential in life.
Game On! is a group mentoring program that provides male-identifying youth in grades 4 7 (age requirement may vary depending on location of program) with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Through participating in traditional and non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles.
Children who participate in Explorations choose from a list of different topics to explore such as: drawing/sketching, drama, baking, mixed media art, science, etc. Mentors from the Langley community provide a safe and fun atmosphere to assist children in building their skills in their chosen Explorations topic through interactive learning and demonstrations.
The Program Strives to:
- Create appreciation for the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle
- Provide children and youth with the skills and support they need to learn a new hobby
- Promote the importance of positive mental health and regular physical activity
- Instill respect for diversity and community
- Encourage leadership skills and independent thinking
- Create a positive environment for children to develop new friendships
- Establish healthy and trusting relationships with their mentors

We believe that by changing the course of young lives we can in turn be changing the course of a community’s future. That it could lead to a reduction in poverty and unemployment. Or to safer schools and neighbourhoods, or a renewed optimism for growth. That it could even lead to change on a broader, more far-reaching scale. Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community.
