Project Literacy and The View Winery & Vineyard have come together in support of literacy in our community!
The View Winery is situated on a parcel of land that has been in the Turton/Ward family for 5 generations. Historically, fresh market apples were grown on the property. In the mid 1990’s a transition began, and vineyards and cider apples were planted. Spartans and McIntosh gave way to award winning wines of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Ehrenfelser and Pinotage vines as well as cider apple varieties such as Belle de Boskoop, Chisel Jersey and Bulmers Norman.
In 2006, the family’s beloved old packinghouse built by Great Granddad Ward in 1922 was transformed into a winery and cidery under the direction of his grandson Chris Turton and great-granddaughter Jennifer Turton-Molgat.
Project Literacy Central Okanagan Society is a literacy charity founded in 1986. For the past 36 years they have been tutoring immigrants, refugees and low-income Canadians in English and Math. They also support children in grades 1-4 in the development of their reading skills.
They are supported by over 100 volunteer tutors, who meet one-on-one with their learner. Project Literacy is funded through community and provincial grants, and corporate and individual donations.
They are excited to be partnering with The View Winery on this unique fundraiser. Thank you for attending and for supporting literacy in your community!
