The donation from G&F Financials to the Abbotsford Child and Youth Committee is making a tremendous impact on our community as through our committee it’s going directly toward supporting parenting programs, counselling services, literacy projects, and support services for children and youth. The Abbotsford Child and Youth Committee is a network of people dedicated to healthier lives for the children, youth and families of Abbotsford and we provide an opportunity to connect and hear voices, address gaps in services in the community, and appreciate the indigenous learning that’s taking place. We deeply value and thank G&F Financial for their support and investment into our community.

Lynda EdmondsFraserside Community Services Society

At Fraserside, we strive to ensure the people served in our programs receive the greatest of care and experience, and it’s in large part thanks to community partners like G&F Financial Group that we’ve been able to enrich the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the community. When we work together, we can create communities of belonging where the diversity of all people is welcome. Thank you G&F Financial Group for your ongoing efforts in making our community more inclusive.

Aldergrove SoccerAldergrove Youth Soccer Club

G&F Financial Group has been a welcome community supporter of Aldergrove Soccer this season. It has been a very challenging time to our organization (and all youth sports), with limits to the activities we can offer our players, many additional COVID-19 protocols, etc. AYSC has a strong emphasis on community soccer – every child is given an opportunity to play, regardless of skill level or physical development; recognizing the financial constraints of many in our community, AYSC strives to make our programs as affordable as possible, with some of the lowest fees in the Lower Mainland. G&F Financial Group stepped up this season with a donation of $1,500 that has helped to offset some of the many, many additional costs we have incurred over the past year and a half. We are grateful to G&F and hope to partner with them on other initiatives in the future. Thank you G&F Financial Group!

Stories of our community involvement
‘Tis the season to give back. Our employees and members voted on how $50,000 should be donated and here are the results. We want to celebrate SHARE Family & Community Services, Cyrus Centre in Abbotsford, the Dixon Society and Foundry Abbotsford for all the great work you do in our communities!
“I can’t help but be flooded with emotion. Kelly Towns and I are so proud to work for an organization dedicated to making a positive impact, and the support that G&F has provided speaks to our credit union values. We are so thrilled that these funds are going into the hands of support services which are a beacon of hope for our community.” ~ Mike Noordam, Manager, Abbotsford Community Branch

In November, Branch Managers, Mike Noordam and Kelly Towns visited four organizations in our community who are providing relief for those impacted by the devastating floods in southern BC.

Their first stop was Abbotsford Community Foundation where they presented a cheque for $50,000 on behalf of G&F Financial Group. Mike says, “They were absolutely overwhelmed by the level of support provided by our organization. This fund will support front-line agencies providing essential services to affected families and businesses.”

The next stop was The Salvation Army in Abbotsford. Emotions were high as Mike and Kelly presented a cheque for $25,000 to help with relief efforts. While the Salvation Army is already very busy supporting our community during the holiday season, the effects from the floods are far-reaching and have increased the pressures on this organization.

After that, Mike and Kelly went to Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue where they met a volunteer who was replenishing supplies at the yard. They presented a cheque for $50,000 to assist the hard-working team as they work around the clock ensuring the safety of our community.

The last stop of the afternoon was Archway Food Bank where Mike and Kelly presented a cheque for $25,000. They were given a tour of food bank, which is run by caring volunteers who serve their guests with dignity and kindness. This is a real ‘hand-up’ for our neighbours. They also run the Star-Fish Backpack program, giving after-school snacks and nutritious meals to students in need. And they provide a home delivery service for seniors in isolation. Every square foot of their facility is maximized to provide food and support for struggling families!

Thank you to all these organizations for the work you are doing to support and rebuild our communities!
Foundry Langley is a support centre that will give young people a place where they can access any and all types of health care services. G&F Financial Group and Aldergrove Financial are proud to support this project which will improve the lives of youth in Langley. In this video, G&F's Christina Hopkins and Crystal Waugh speak from the construction site alongside Loren Roberts of Encompass Support Services Society, who is managing the project in partnership with Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation and Foundry.

Please join us and other credit unions across Canada in support of the Canadian Red Cross and those who were impacted by the flooding in southern BC. The money raised will be used to carry out relief, recovery, resiliency and risk reduction activities in and around the BC region.

Join us in celebrating the good work of Archway Community Services and their involvement in the Abbotsford Child and Youth Committee (CYC) — a network of people dedicated to healthier lives for the children, youth and families of Abbotsford. The CYC meets quarterly to discuss the community networking for children, youth and families. They provide an opportunity to connect and hear voices, address gaps in services in the community, and appreciate the indigenous learning that’s taking place.

Among their many services for people of all ages, the committee offers a Family Education Program for those with children under the age of 12. The program helps parents learn how to raise their kids in a healthy way, which includes guiding them through substance abuse issues and providing a play centre where parents have a safe, supportive space to interact with their children and talk with a counsellor.

On October 29, we presented a donation to the committee, represented by Eric Van Egmond, Director of Operations for the Ministry of Child and Family Development Abbotsford, Janice Germaine, Manager of Abbotsford and Mission Public Health Authority for Fraser Health Authority, and Shairose Jinnah, Director of Counselling, Child, Youth and Family Services for Archway Community Services.

To Archway Community Services and the Abbotsford Child and Youth Committee: we are grateful for all that you do day in and day out to improve the lives of others. Thank you for your work with families in the Abbotsford community!

The Mission community is fundraising for a much-needed CT Scanner for Mission Memorial Hospital. Mission Branch Manager, Sean Melia presented a cheque to Mission All Together for Healthcare (M.A.T.H.) representatives, Dr Andrew Edelson and Judith Ray, on September 23rd.

“There are a fair number of people who think we have an old folks home there, not a hospital, and it turns out it’s quite a functional hospital that works well with Abbotsford.

Over the past 10 years we have worked hard on developing a better relationship with the regional hospital so we are more part of the system and are able to do what we need to do, with better efficiency, understanding the limitations of smaller hospitals.” ~ Dr Andrew Edelson, M.A.T.H. Co-Chair

Take a look inside the Cyrus Centre and see how they've created a refuge for homeless youth in Abbotsford. Inside is a welcoming, cozy space with a dining room, bedrooms, video games, laundry... all the amenities a kid could want to make it feel like a home. You'll also meet a young man who shares about his time at the Centre and his hopes for the future.

Aldergrove Credit Union has been supporting the Cyrus Centre for the past several years. Following the merger of Aldergrove Credit Union and G&F Financial Group in August 2021, G&F donated funds towards operations at the Centre. As two credit unions joined together, we will be able to give back even more to the communities we serve across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
We sent our Wealth Manager, Tyler MacLean and Community Manager, Anita Jensen, to swing at golf balls in support of the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation golf tournament fundraiser, August 12th. We're happy to support this hospital which is vital to the Langley community.
We're committed to giving back to the community!
