GreenStep Solutions Inc is looking for volunteers to help with a waste audit at UBCO - University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus on Wednesday, October 5 for any two hour block between 8am - 4pm.
One day's worth of waste from the entire campus will be audited by a large group of volunteers based on volume and visual observation. The purpose is to find the amount of recyclable, compostable, and refundable items that make it into the garbage. These percentages will be used to compare with past and future audits, make recommendations for better waste management, and to get an idea of changes in behavior over time since previous waste audits.
Training will be provided on site and all safety equipment will be supplied. This is a fun activity that draws a lot of attention to the courtyard. Everyone who participates enjoys it and is always surprised at what they find in the trash.
