CLIC Storytellers have been busy meeting with participants of the Envision Financial, a division of First West Credit Union Community Leaders Igniting Change program. Recently, Alexa asked Kathy, “How has taking CLIC impacted you? What have you learned?
My name is Katherine. I’m a disabled woman living in Surrey. I am a poet and I love to sing. I’m learning how to connect to myself and others in a more authentic way and feel drawn to learn more about how to do that. I’d like to create more purpose in my life through helping others in my community, and am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn how to understand and break down barriers I face and ways I can move forward with confidence into a leadership role.
CLIC has given me the confidence to imagine myself as a leader. It’s made me feel more capable and that my contributions are of value. Being in a learning environment again was very energizing and empowering, and I look forward to staying in contact with my cohort and the rest of the CLIC Alumni. I have learned so much: that it is essential for a leader to be authentic, compassionate and curious. I’ve learned the value of examining my values, and I know this will serve me in all areas of my life going forward. I feel supported by the wider CLIC community and am so excited to see everyone’s journeys as they implement what we have all learned together. I am grateful to have so much support to draw upon as I explore ideas and projects in the future.
Envision Financial Community Leaders Igniting Change (CLIC) is a grass-roots program helping local community members build upon their leadership skills and confidence as change-makers.
