Island Savings’ Lead Well donation goes to Raise the Roof at Glenora Farm.

Last year, Krista Brown - an employee at Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union – chose to direct her $500 Lead Well charitable donation award to The Ita Wegman Association’s Glenora Farm. The farm, found just outside of Duncan, is a place where adults with developmental disabilities live, work and learn together with others in the community.

We thought it fitting to share this heartwarming story of giving and thriving today, on World Down Syndrome Day.

When choosing her charity of choice, Krista shared with us her connection to the farm, “My cousin is 23 and has down syndrome. He works at the farm 4 days a week and loves every moment he is there, from the work he does right down to taking his guitar down to the duck pond and playing and singing for them. This farm is great place for people of our community and deserves all the donations we can provide.”

Glenora Farm has directed the funds to their Raise the Roof campaign in efforts to replace the 30-year-old wooden roof on the Big House located on the farm. The Big House is home to residential accommodations for six Companions, a number of workshop spaces, and their administration offices.
