As part of First West’s Lead Well program, Kimberley Cheng - an employee at Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union - was selected for a charitable donation award and made a $500 donation to the Amber Academy Youth Fine Arts Society, courtesy of First West.
“Amber Academy encompasses all aspects of the arts which makes it so inclusive. There is a role for every child from acting, audio/visual, costume design & creation, stagehands and set design,” said Kimberley. “I have volunteered with this organization many times and value the work they do in my community to empower youth.”
In May, Kimberley helped with the Academy's stage production of Beauty and the Beast doing stage makeup and hair for cast members as well as stagehand duties during filming. She also did the makeup for the performance piece I Never Saw Another Butterfly.
Upon receiving the donation, Keli Dunn, Executive Director at Amber Academy, share “The funds will be used for materials and supplies for our program and our Spring 2022 musical theatre production, The Wizard of Oz. With more than 80 children already participating in this year’s program, the show is expected to be nothing less than spectacular!”
Thank you, Kimberley and Amber Academy for leading well and inspiring young people to become more creative, productive and confident members of our community.
