Meet Craig Smith, UBCO Heat women’s soccer coach and regular COFB volunteer. Always asking for the heaviest and hardest jobs, Craig has logged over 250 volunteer hours in the last year and we can’t imagine the place without him. This fall his team joined us as well, and they've contributed over 350 volunteer hours since.

Why is volunteering important to you? We’re in this world to give, not to take.

How did you get connected with the food bank? New Year 2020 I reached out to volunteer, and when the pandemic made our soccer season impossible I just kept showing up to help.

What do you love most about volunteering with us? There is a real sense of community. I’ve met a lot of great people and it’s a sincere way to help.

What is the most important trait of a volunteer? To do your best no matter what the job. Even if it’s cleaning toilets—do your best!

Why should other community leaders volunteer? Altruism is the only reason, ever. I am at a point in my life where I can choose where to spend my time. I'm learning that it's not about what you get, it's about what you give. That's what makes the world better.

Thank you Craig, we appreciate you! 💛🧡
