Our featured Employee Volunteer program randomly drawn winner today is Stephanie Benedict , Manager, Business Services, in the Capital Regional District. This busy employee of 13 years volunteers for a number of organizations, but the two she spends the most time with are The Arthritis Society and Volunteer Victoria.

Stephanie directed her winnings to Volunteer Victoria, saying, “This organization has always been an important part of our community, but now with the ‘New Normal’ the work they are doing is even more significant.” She sits on the board as well as the Development committee, noting that over the past few months, the need for skilled caring volunteers has never been greater. Volunteer Victoria has been working hard to raise funds for new technology to keep volunteers connected with organizations in need of help in a safe and meaningful way.

Stephanie also volunteers for the Arthritis Society because she has been personally affected by arthritis and was shocked at how little she actually knew about the programs and research that the Society funds. She has been the chair for the organization’s Walk committee for the last three years. Attending volunteer and Health Partner Canada fairs helps her get the word out about fundraising efforts and the wonderful work the Society does for people living with arthritis.

Stephanie sums up her desire to give back by saying, “I truly believe volunteering is the backbone of our communities. It allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. Even if you’re giving a small amount of time, everything counts and makes a difference.”
