The Kamloops Elizabeth Fry Society Family Stepping Stones (FSS) program provides long term, safe, supportive housing and individualized programming to keep families together while preparing them for the transition to independent living, and a new chapter in their lives.
A new component of FSS, the Family Gardening Project leverages a large yard that already exists on-site, and is easily accessible to those families that live there. Those in the program will learn how to grow and preserve food, as well as learn about healthy eating habits, meal preparation and budgeting. It will promote bonding between mothers and their children, and contribute to lower stress and improved mental health. If you’re a gardener, you know yourself how impactful this hobby can be on your well-being.
A nice fit with our impact area 'Empowering Parents', Interior Savings provided $15,000 to allow for the purchase of gardening supplies including a shed, tools, fencing and fruit trees – all the elements needed to launch this project. Not only will this program benefit current residents, but also future residents and partner agencies in the Kamloops area.
We look forward to seeing this program launch in the spring of 2021!🥕
